The SpatDIF library – Concepts and Practical Applications in Audio Software

Jan Schacker, Chikashi Miyama and Trond Lossius will present a poster at the joint ICMC|SMC|2014 Conference in Athens, Greece. The paper presents recent development of a `libspatdif’ C/C++ software library for SpatDIF, the Spatial Sound Description Interchange Format, as well as prototype implementations in Max, Pure Data and OpenFrameworks making use of the library.

ATK Reaper: The Ambisonic Toolkit as JSFX plugins

Trond Lossius and Joseph Anderson will present a poster at the joint ICMC|SMC|2014 Conference in Athens, Greece. The paper presents a port of the Ambisonic Toolkit as a series of plugins for the Reaper DAW. ATK for Reaper brings both a comprehensive composition workflow model, the sound-field sound-image paradigm, and a set of versatile tools for working with Ambisonics to the DAW environment.

Model-View-Controller separation in Max using Jamoma

The upcoming version 0.6 of Jamoma enables model-view-controller separation in Max. The novel features that Jamoma 0.6 enables will be presented in a paper at the joint ICMC|SMC|2014 Conference in Athens, Greece. A demo session will further exemplify the many benefits of MVC separation in Max using Jamoma 0.6.

Paper: OpenMusic on Linux

Anders Vinjar and Jean Bresson (Ircam) presents a paper at the Linux Audio Conference at ZKM, Karlsruhe, on the recent port of the OpenMusic computer-aided composition environment to Linux. The port has been supported by BEK. Anders has used OpenMusic for Linux when composing a new multi-channel electro-acoustic work commissioned by BEK. The work is to be premiered in the near future.

Korsmos ugressarkiv

The ongoing project Korsmos ugressarkiv by Kristin Tårnesvik & Espen Sommer Eide will have its first exhibition at Entrée Bergen. The project ascends from biologist Emil Korsmo’s (1863-1953) profoundly detailed and methodically preserved compilation of own material from a lifelong research into combating weeds.

Baltan Laboratories continues the Natlab legacy

In 2014 Baltan Laboratories in Eindhoven celebrates the centenary of the establishment of the Phillips Natlab. For the anniversary Marieke Verbiesens has written an essay, which takes a short detour around Natlab’s rich and unique’s history in relation to 100 years of Natlab and Baltan’s future ambitions.

New paper on SpatDIF

The latest issue of the Computer Music Journal (MIT Press) includes an article on the Spatial Sound Description Interchange Format (SpatDIF) by Nils Peters, Trond Lossius, and Jan Schacher, entitled “The Spatial Sound Description Interchange Format: Principles, Specification, and Examples”.

Paper on automated testing in Jamoma at SMC 2012

The paper An Automated Testing Suite for Computer Music Environments by Nils Peters , Trond Lossius & Tim Place will be presented at Sound and Music Computing Conference 2012 in Copenhagen.

Software development benefits from systematic testing with respect to implementation, optimization, and maintenance. The paper reports on how automated testing is implemented and used for Jamoma to test C++ code as well as Max externals and patches.

Paper on SpatDIF at SMC 2012

The paper SpatDIF: Principles, specification, and examples by Nils Peters , Jan Schacher & Trond Lossius will be presented at Sound and Music Computing Conference 2012 in Copenhagen.

SpatDIF, the Spatial Sound Description Interchange Format, offers a semantic and syntactic specification for storing and transmitting spatial audio scene descriptions. The paper provides an overview of the specification and discuss two use cases.
