Artist talk: Cléo Palacio-Quintin

For the last ten years Cléo Palacio-Quintin has been a pioneer within an emerging field of musicians playing hyper instruments; traditional instruments extended and reinvented through the use of sensor technology and live digital sound processing.

Cléo Palacio-Quintin will be talking about her musical practice. The day before, Saturday 19th she is performing at USF as part of the Avgarde program.

Artist Talk: Terry Flaxton

British artist and film maker Terry Flaxton is our guest for the first artist talk this autumn.

Terry Flaxton is a senior research fellow in HD Video Production at the University of Bristol, U.K. Terry Flaxton has been involved in the UK video art and indepent film milieu since the late seveties and has worked with a broad range of productions including documentaries, video installations and television productions, including one of the first tv-series on video art in the UK, made in 1985.

Mem1 (Mark + Laura Cetilia) seamlessly blends the sounds of cello and electronics to create a limitless palette of sonic possibilities. In their improvisation-based performances, all sounds are derived from the cello as the sole source material, which is manipulated in real time. Their music moves beyond melody, lyricism, and traditional structural confines, resulting in organically revealed narrative.
