Natasha Barrett at SMC 2013

BEK and PNEK support Natasha Barrett’s participation in SMC13 (Sound and Music Computing Conference 2013) in Stockholm this summer. She will present the composition Hidden Value, developed during an artist residency at IRCAM in 2012. Natasha Barrett has recently received a five-year grant for working with spatial audio in electroacoustic music, music with live electronics and sound art, and her artistic research is carried out in collaboration with BEK.

Maia Urstad preparing for BLÅ

Maia Urstad has been using Projectroom 1 at BEK to rehearse for her concert performance at BLÅ in Oslo. Her composition, Crackle Stories, is part of the Only Connect nyMusikk’s annual festival of adventurous music.

Marcus Davidson has recently done some recordings in our sound studio using the Cubase 7 editor and different microphones such as the Blueberry and the Røde NTG-3.

The object becomes the plane, the light will be given to the darkness, the silence reflects sound.
Overgangen, is an exploration of the distance between black and white, between light and darkness. We close ourselves in, in one of Bergen’s historic chambers and drape the windows.

Maia Urstad live on Stazione Di Topolò

Today, Sunday 24th March at 18:30, Maia Urstad will be playing The Prodigal Son Revisited live from our sound studio. She’ll be part of ToBe Continued… an original concert lasting 24 hours (from 00.00 hours to the midnight of March 24th), during which musicians from many parts of the World will be connected to a website that will broadcast their concerts.

Playdate Concert: Bly de Blyant & Marieke Verbiesen

Tuesday 19th of March Jazz Improv band Bly de Blyant will celebrate the release of their album “ABC” with a concert at Landmark Bergen Kunsthall, teaming up with improv visualist Marieke Verbiesen during the evening “Playdate”

Borealis, Utmark and the Notations project

In collaborations with Borealis and Utmark we have been hosting rehearsals by the Langham Research Center and AR. The Langham Research Centre performed Eschatology, one of their own pieces, and they played a Notations Project Performance written by Andrea Spreafico. AR, a musical duo consisting of Richard Skelton and Autumn Richardson, premiered new music from their upcoming album, a follow up to Wolf Notes.
